..::IGLOOFEST::..

..::Somebody-That-I-Used-To-Know::..
Ellen seems to always find the best Youtube sensations to bring on her show. Apparently I’m a few weeks behind and maybe some of you have already seen this amazing performance by these five individuals from Burlington, Ontario. If you haven’t, definitely check out the attached video. I have never seen something so creative, where five people play the exact same instrument, in unison, to create a beautiful melody, while harmonizing such beautiful lyrics. Aside from being musically gifted, I’m awe of their musical creativity. Never have I seen such a performance and the song is so beautiful that I can’t help to play it over and over. In trying to find out more about this band, I went to the Twitter and found it fitting that their bio says “Making music is like a puzzle… We like puzzles!”
Hope you enjoy it!

..::Real Syringe? Or Good Marketing?::..
Being a marketer, I’ve learned to appreciate the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to advertising. It can be a daunting task to come up with original and creative ideas that will create buzz worthy attention for a business. The trick however is usually to promote good buzz and not the other way around.
In reading a blog that I have recently come across and come to love, I found this. A New Zealand pizza establishment (Hell PIzza), who gave away blood-filled syringe pens to kids. Now why they may have gotten their target audience a tad bit wrong for this promotion, I truly found these pens to be hilarious! Mind you the parents who found their little nine year old son with this didn’t have quite the same reaction I did. But they were definitely adult worthy funny! The pens (as shown above) look like actual syringes and were inscribed with “Hell, creating addicts since 1996”. It is kind of witty/smart and from what I’ve come to understand of this establishment, is that they like to be outlaws, and it works for them. Their edgy marketing schemes from this to their “misfortune” cookies, is giving them not only local but international attention as well. Although, it may not always be good attention, it has definitely created the elusive buzz all marketers try to obtain. Plus I have to give them creativity points here. Why the pun may be sad in shedding light on a terrible habit, it’s creative, and speaks to their brand.
I love finding good and bad advertisements/promotions and seeing what fellow colleagues have come up with. If you’re interested in this kind of stuff too you should check out my new favourite blogger, COPYRANTER, by either checking out his blog (http://copyranter.blogspot.com) or finding him on Twitter (@copyranter). For whatever reason this guy always seems to find the best ads to comment on, and I love his thoughts!
Anyways lesson of the day: Don’t be afraid to offend! There will always be critics.. Why yes it is better to create good attention, being bad can have its perks too! Keep fit, have fun and stay away from real syringes my friends!

..::ALL.I.CAN ~ J.P Auclair Street Segment::..
Being a snowboarder, I usually avoid annoying skier videos and brush them off. I’m a boarding snob, I’ll admit it. That being said, I can appreciate talent and creativity. Although this is a skier video, it does have some pretty awesome tricks, not to mention the amazing cinematography and good music! I’m dying to see the whole creative piece!
Hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

..::My Misconception of Electro-House Music::..
Recently “house” music has become my favourite genre of music to listen to. In going to shows and feeding off the energy that these dj’s exude, its almost inspiring, and to think when I first started listening to this music I just wrote it off. I thought that those who produced “house” music, were not talented individuals. To me they ripped off the vocals of real musicians and only made remixes of others’ songs to make them more danceable for the club scene.
This was clearly my biggest misconception of all, and I must give props to my sis and my most recent ex for continuing to expose this culture/scene to me. If it were not for them I would have never came across this amazing individual who showed me just how talented house producers CAN be.
The video clip above is a collaboration of 39 different songs all put together to make one amazing song. It’s called “Pop-culture” and is created by Madeon, who is a French, 17 year old, musical genius. To have such an ear, to combine all these songs, along with adding his own signature sounds to the mix seems unfathomable to myself, although I am musical inclined. Anyway, everytime I hear this song play I become inspired. It hypes me up, and is definitely a good kick-me-in-the-pants and get out of bed song.
Hope you enjoy it!
